Comcast cable doesnt guarantee specific speeds, so don't expect to get the fastest speeds with it all the time. The odds of a peice of lint blocking pins 1,2,3,6 on a 4-pair cable is slim to none, but it has happened with me before and it disrupted the connection. I am about 99% sure it's not a porblem on my end. now something about that just doesnt seem right, that I should be pinging the ISP, with a direct connection, at 200 - 400 ms! An interesting fact - if I ping my default gateway when I am plugged in directly, I get pings anywhere from 200-400 ms.
I am playing thru a wireless router, but even if I plug directly into the cable modem, thru a wire, I get the same slow pings. I have called up Comcast about 3 times about this already, and every time one of their incompetent employees gives me some BS about how its working fine. Then, I thought maybe it might be the game, so I uninstaleld it and reinstalled it.
At first I thought maybe it was spyware, so I thoroughly scanned my computer. I usually get in a game of counter-strike with my buddies every night, and lately my ping has gone from the normal 30-40 ms to about 120-200 ms. I got Comcast High Speed Internet about a month ago, and everything was fine and dandy til about a week ago.
